Can I put a jib furler on an SC 17?

Post by clintopher »

I was thinking about putting a furler on my SC 17 but not knowing a whole lot about these boats yet, I wanted to make sure that it'll work. Is it something that would plug and play or will I have to make some modifications? Or is it even possible at all?

Clint,

The answer to your question depends on a few things, but if it is possible, then it is pretty much plug & play. Question #1 is does your boat have a self tacking jib system? If it does, then it is not possible to add roller furling.

If you don't have a self tacking jib system, then it typically is just a matter of replacing the forestay, pigtail & adding the roller furling drum with swivel. You might also need to have your jib battens modified or a new jib. Your best bet is to call our office at 651-462-SAIL and discuss your options.
