This past January Bill Roberts had an opportunity to race an RC30 in the Around Barbados race. I have attached the article he has written which recaps the race.
I hope everyone enjoys the article, please feel free to post any questions you might have, I am sure Bill wouldn't mind answering them right here.

Great story Bill. 30 knots sustained! Gotta love it. What was the total distance covered and total elapsed time? I assume that you took line honors as first to finish. How much rum came back with you?

Hi Don,
The locals told me the race was 88 nautical miles around the perimeter of the island. Sailing North up the East coats against the swells was very slow and jerky, no fun. The first hour was a drifter, around 3 knots of wind. We finished in 4 hours and 50 minutes, an hour in front of the second boat which was a monohull. The handicap was applied at the start. We started 2hours and 20 minutes after the first monohulls.
A case of Rum has 9 bottles in it so we won 90 bottles old extra old Mount Gay Rum. I was allowed to bring two into the US without paying duty. The owner of Tiami Silver Bullet got 88 bottles, 88 litres of Mount Gay Rum.

I just put a photo album of the Barbados Race online for Bill since he was having problems getting his photos to post on Catsailor.
The album can be found at http://owners.aquarius-sail.com/photo_a ... index.html
Enjoy!
