Proper reeving of rudder lines?

I've searched but have not found a pic of a properly rigged rudder. Could someone direct me to the right link or post a pic please. Thanks GH

Surprisingly I don't seem to have a good photo showing how to run the lines in a the rudder head. I will keep digging around, but in the mean time take a look at this post from several years ago, it might be helpful.

When I searched "Rudder rigging" the search engine rejected it. A picture from astern would be most helpful.

2 items. First, the newer rigging from Aquarius has larger diameter spacers between the 3 channels to prevent overrides. That is a big help.

Second (and don't shoot me), I reversed the rigging so that it's a single pull to drop the rudder, and a double pull to raise it. I sail in shallows with lots of grass, so my rudders pop all the time. I'll pull them down a half-dozen times in a few hours, and only pull them up once at the end of the day. I sailed in clear waters for 10 years with the normal rudder rig, but one season in the flats and I switched it.

I know I'm dredging up an old post, but would you show how you reversed the rigging for a single pull rudder down please.

Sorry, I haven't been back in a while.

The simple answer is just reverse the lines where they are screwed into the rudder. Normally, the line that lifts the lock is screwed to the lift side of the rudder. Switch it, so that it's connected to the drop side of the rudder.

I tried the reverse line trick. It worked but brought the rudders down really hard. I will look into this further this winter.

Ah... thanks very much for this. I've been meaning to ask why there are three sheaves (when only two were in use on mine), and now I get that it was previously screwed up - the red line is too short and wasn't reeved through the third sheave. Gotta go get me some rope - I trust that the lengths given in the 15/17/19 manual are correct.

Way different than mine - I only have a single block on the lock and none underneath the tiller.

Yeah, I get it. Is that a new(er) factory thing, or your own hack?

Interesting, I too have never seen the rudders rigged like that.
